Making sandwiches

We were all really keen to make sandwiches this afternoon, but when we looked in the recipe book, the page we needed had been torn out! We got to work writing our own instructions for making honey sandwiches.

After this, we followed our recipe and made our "sticky", "sweet", "deliciously scrummy" honey sandwiches!

Question time
Where does honey come from?

Enabling Enterprise

Located in Hertfordshire, Windhill21 have been developing their enterprise skills for the second year running. Building on from the success of last year’s Greetings Card Challenge, the whole school was looking forward to showing off all of their skills in a challenge that would stretch their teamwork and imagination skills beyond what they have ever experienced. The whole school was already working with ‘Agent Problem Solver’ and ‘Agent Resilience’, which chimed perfectly with the spirit of the Enterprise Skills. Let’s see how they got on.

Degas caterpillar update: we have 5 butterflies!!

After a long wait we now have 5 butterflies!

Spikey, spotty, cheeky, Dave and Lulu all successfully grew into butterflies! We are all so excited!!

Cassatt Caterpillar update #4

After a long wait...
We have a butterfly!

As our classroom is the coolest room, our butterflies are the last to emerge in Early Years. We can already see another chrysalis beginning to darken, and if you look closely, you can see the patterns of the wings through the chrysalis wall.

We might be lucky enough to witness a butterfly hatching!

Cassatt meet Jungle Jo!

Today, Jungle Jo visited Reception and Nursery classes, and brought a few of her friends along with her! She taught us about how minibeasts are classified as such because they have no bones. We met six legged insects, a millipede with hundreds of legs, minibeasts and animals with no legs at all, and even an eight legged friend called Curly Sue!

We were Agent Open minded and looked closely at Jo's pets, and even touched or held some of them! We were really careful not to harm or scare the creatures as we noticed how much bigger we were than them.

This is Brian the Giant Snail. Lily thought the shell felt smooth. In fact Jungle Jo taught us that the shell is made of the same materials as our finger nails!

This is a cockroach that looked like it had tiger stripes. Dylan said it really tickled his hands!

We met a giant millipede, which has 200 legs! Yasmin liked the millipede but she thought the locust was her favourite because it was so jumpy!

Ewa and Lina felt brave enough to hold the stick insect! They were really calm and kind to her.

Martim was fascinated by the feel of the snake. We learnt that snakes aren't minibeasts because they have bones in their body.

When we got back to class, we wanted to carry on learning about minibeasts and wanted to share our knowledge by reading non fiction books together and drawing scientific diagrams of the creatures we met.

THANK YOU JUNGLE JO!
