Fun in the snow

In nursery this week we made the most of the snow we were lucky enough to have. The children had a wonderful time playing in the snow building snow castles using buckets and spades. We even made a little snowman and have been collecting icicles. The ice was amazing and the children had so much fun looking at it and collecting it as it was so cold it did not melt.

Happy Chinese New Year from Reception!

In Reception we are celebrating Chinese New Year! Many of the children worked hard to produce extra work for the week based on this special occasion. Alonso and Molly shared their experiences and crafts with friends during show and tell sessions and this inspired their friends to share their experiences too!
Alonso drew this picture to tell the story of Nian - the lion/dragon dance story. He has also been busy making New Year cards for his family! And Molly made everyone jump with her fearsome puppet!

Mia shared with us that in Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year), traditional stories are told about different characters. Lion is fierce and will scare germs way. Dragon comes with fire and burns away bad luck, lightens up the dark and means that hard times are over .

Mia also shared with us, on the night of New Year's Eve, a bowl of rice dumplings in soup is shared with the whole family. It symbolises reunion meaning every family member can always stay together closely, in harmony, and peacefully.

Happy Chinese New Year everybody!

Nursery- Billy Goats Gruff

In nursery this week we have been reading the story 'The Billy Goats Gruff' and learning all about prepositional language describing the position of the goats on top, next to and under the bridge. We have also been singing the song 'London Bridge is Falling Down' and looking at pictures of different bridges.

We realised that we could then put other toys on top like the polar bear who climbed on our role play area and use the positional vocabulary in our play.

Our number this week was '3' and we had fun putting cars in paint and following the number 3 shape using the cars. It was lots of fun and very messy!!

Year 3 Newsletter

Once again, we have been so impressed with the high standard of work that Year 3 have been achieving over the last two weeks. The pride and effort they are taking in their home learning is so heartening to see, and we are so proud of them. We continue to be grateful to all the parents for your support and understanding through this journey of home learning.

In English, the children have been impressing us with their creativity and imagination by designing their own unicorns and planning an information text. Here are some of their magical creations.

Year 2 Newsletter

Wow! What a great week we have had in Year 2! Even though it has been very quiet in school this week, Year 2 have been as busy as always. We are continuing to be amazed with all the work the children are producing with their home learning and are very proud of the effort they are putting in during this unusual time. A big shout out to the parents also, who are supporting your chldren at home in such a fantastic way. Thank you. In Maths we have been learning about division and in particular dividing by 2. We have been working on number problems that involve sharing objects into 2 groups and finding out how many in each group. Our English work has been centred around special shoes! The children watched a lovely video of how a caterpillar gave away all his shoes to other creatures who would benefit from them. We then thought, what if we had a pair of special shoes that gave the wearer special abilities, such as flying or turning invisible or even creating tornado's! With a structure in place and a planner, the children were given freedom to create their own story about their special pair of shoes! Some of the writing blew us away! We are really looking forward to next week when we use the book Tadpoles Promise by Jeanna Willis and Tony Ross to base our English writing on. You can see the story here Over the past couplle of weeks the children have been working on thier sketching skills using techniques such as cross hatching. This week they began to ut these skills together by drawing a castle. You can see some of the amazing drawngs they have produce below from Bobbi and Emily. Well done everyone on your incredivle castle drawings.
