Keeping ourselves safe on line

The truth is that nine and ten year olds know the internet a lot better than their parents and teachers. Most of us want to become famous YouTube stars so why would we keep our profiles private
and deny ourselves a great following?

The Two Johns (two retired policemen) came in to discuss the ways that we use the internet but most importantly the best ways that we can keep ourselves safe on line.

re Ticktock and other video apps:
- understand what weirdos are looking for online
- know that many of your followers will be weirdos
- know that weirdos have probably already downloaded videos that we have posted on line
 - keep your profiles and accounts private and know how to change ALL the settings
- At the very least, CHANGE YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS SO THAT NOBODY CAN DOWNLOAD YOUR VIDEOS

re Live streaming
- avoid live streaming in your PJs or boxer shorts as this is what the weirdos are looking for (especially if you are live streaming from your bedroom)
- know that many of your followers will be weirdos...why else would they be following you?
- what information are you disclosing online? How might weirdos use this?
re Roadblocks and other on line gaming
- the weirdos will target you if the online chat
- remember that the characters in games are represented by real people and you don’t know who they are
- if you are offered things that seem too good to be true then it will be dodgy
- if you are asked to do

Snapchat
- only chat with real life friends
- make sure you use Ghost mode and select ‘until turned off’ or people can find your EXACT location

posting photos on line
- photos are tagged with the location that they were taken so weirdos will know exactly where you live if you post photos on line

PARENTS PLEASE COME AND LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP US TO KEEP OURSELVES SAFE BY COMING TO SEE THE TWO JOHNS TONIGHT
