Year 5 & 6 Gymnastics Competition

EXCEPTIONAL

This year marks a first for Windhill21, it was the first time as a school that this competition had been represented by our pupils and we had an abundance of talent to choose from. With two teams selected and a lot of hard work and practice under their belts the children were ready for the competition.

Six teams in total entered from four different schools, the skill level was a  big step up from the Year 3 & 4 competition and nerves were evident from all the competitors.  Each child had to perform either a straddle vault, through vault or squat on with tuck jump off and a floor routine comprising of cartwheels, balances, handstands, headstands, round offs and back walkovers to name a few.

Each gymnast performed with composure, strength, co-ordination and determination to do their absolute best. These performances were rewarded with fantastic results.

Windhill21 Team 2 had the best all around floor performances of the day, their routine difficulty scores were slightly lower than the other teams due to skills they opted for in their routines. However, this not deter them they secured an exceptional 3rd place on floor meaning they were close to all performing perfect score floor routines, this is an exceptional achievement when the majority of this team comprising of school gymnasts with no club or competition experience yet were competing against children with vast club and competition experience. The team overall came 4th with only a 0.4 points difference between 3rd place. What an exceptional results for this team.

Congratulations must go to Windhill21 Team 1 who won both the floor and were joint first on vault securing the overall win for this competition. Precision vaulting and flawless floor routines secured this well deserved result. You should all be immensely proud of your achievements.

Floor Results
Windhill21 Team 1 = 1st
High Wych Green = 2nd
Windhill21 Team 2 = 3rd

Vault results
Windhill21 Team = 1st
High Wych Green = 1st
High Wych Blue = 3rd

Overall
Windhill21 Team 1 = 1st
High Wych Green = 2nd
St Josephs = 3rd
Windhill21 Team 2 = 4th (0.4 points behind 3rd place)
High Wych Blue = 5th
Thorn Grove = 6th

PE in Reception

In Reception, the children have been exploring gymnastics in their PE sessions. Miss Freeman was very excited to come in to see how brilliant the children were with their listening skills, their ability to assess and manage risk and of course their gross motor skills. As ever, Miss Freeman set our children a challenge, to grow our brains even more! Being mindful about our body positions, each child was able to have a go at doing a forward roll safely. We needed to remember to look after ourselves by tucking our chins into our chests and planting our hands firmly on the mat.

The children cannot wait for their next PE session!

Gymnastics Competitions

BSP Gymnastics Competitions
The past two weeks have been successful for our gymnastics squads. All the children that attended have shown real commitment to their gymnastics journey. Throughout the competition they all showed determination, passion and courage. Performing as individuals and being judged on their individual performances was a very pressured environment, all children stood up to the pressure and executed beautiful routines and vaults.

Wednesday 23rd January saw the KS1 gym squad competing in a floor and vaulting competition. Each child completed the same floor sequence and vault. After all competitors had performed the results were announced that Windhill had won both the Vault and Floor competition making them the overall competition winners! This was a wonderful achievement and the first time our KS1 children have ever won this competition.

The 30th January saw the Lower KS2 children take their opportunity to perform in their competition. Each child had to perform a vault and a floor routine. The standard of gymnasts at the competition was incredibly high across all the fourteen schools. At the end of the competition the results of discipline each discipline were announced. Windhill placed second on the floor 2, first in the floor 1 and first on the vault. Meaning by the smallest of margins (0.35points) our children were crowned overall competition winners.

A huge congratulations to all children, you were phenomenal!

Gymnastics County Finalists

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 gymnastics team in securing a County Final place after winning Gold at the Bishops Stortford Partnership gymnastics competition. The children have spent many months preparing for this competition at school and all their hard work paid off. This is a fantastic achievement for all those involved and it is the first time this age group has ever finished in the top 3!

The children will go on to represent the whole of the Bishops Stortford Partnership at the County Finals in the Summer Term, with the opportunity to progress to National Finals if they secure a win. I'm sure you will all join me in wishing them the best of luck in the next stage of their journey.

Gymnastics Silver Medalists

Congratulations to our Year 1 and 2 children who competed in the Bishops Stortford Partnership gymnastics competition, securing a very well deserved second place. The children have worked incredibly hard since September learning a set routine and vault and all their hard work paid off. This is the best result Windhill21 have ever gained at a gym competition and we are all very proud of them.
