The Snow Centre

Friday saw the first of the two Spring Snow Centre trips. Children on this trip were returning for the second time and were aiming to improve previously learnt skills. All children demonstrated more independence with the use of their equipment and quickly remembered previously learnt skills. By lunch time all children on ski's were making 2 or 3 clear turns down the learner slope and the snowboarders were refining their heel edge and toe edge techniques into consistent skills.

The group settled down at lunch time for a nice cooked meal to warm themselves up and recharge their batteries ready for the afternoons sessions. Although they were all exhausted from the mornings lessons, the children excitedly shared stories and experiences of the morning activities over lunch and watched more experienced skiers and snowboarders from the ski lodge window.

After lunch the skiers started to move further up the slop to increase the length of their runs whilst linking controlled turns. The snowboarders were starting to traverse across the slope using a falling leaf technique. At the end of the day the children received progress medals from their instructors who were super impressed with their behaviour, attitude and perseverance.

Year 6 Newsletter

What a crazy week we had in school for World Book Week. Thank you to all parents who supported the children in coming into school dressed as their favourite book character - it was lovely to hear about all the books that have inspired them. We based the week on the wonderful world of David Walliams characters and by the end of the week your children had written super character descriptions and drawn portraits based on the book, 'The World's Worst Children". We were introduced to Frantic Freya, who made mischief wherever she went.; Nerdy Norman, who flaunts his nerdiness on an industrial scale and Sluggish Sam, the boy who just loved to sleep. 

As well as World Book Week, we also enjoyed the snow all week. Many thanks to the intrepid TAs who took all the children out to play in the snow! 

Book week in Year 4

This week, in Year 4 we have been hot on the tail of Gangsta Granny....Getting into her character, we ‘Mimed a Crime’ in drama, ate Murray Mints and played Scrabble. This afternoon, we really enjoyed sharing books with Reception class. We also combined art and English to produce Wanted Posters and had great fun writing and presenting BBC news reports. These photos and videos (via the QR codes) will give you a flavour of our learning this week.

On Tuesday, we thoroughly enjoyed playing in the snow on the field. Today, in DT’ we learnt how to sew a hem, making tiny neckgators as a way of preparing for our real ones.

Frozen dinosaur eggs!

Today we spoke about how snow and ice is formed and where it comes from. We talked about different weather that we experience and the seasons throughout the year that allow us to experience that. The children could say that we had ice and snow because it was so cold, Francis even said he knew it was -2 when he came to school. After our discussion about snow and ice Miss Clarke brought out some dinosaur eggs

We talked about how the ice was formed. The children were able to say that it had started as water and because it was put in the freezer it was turned into ice. Miss Clarke introduced the scientific words liquid and solid to the children to explain to them how the water had changed. 

We started to talk about how we could melt the ice to set the dinosaurs free.
The children came up with brilliant ideas such as:

-Using our breath because it is hot

-Holding it for as long as we could because our hands our warm

-Put it in the microwave

-Put it in the oven

-Put it somewhere warm in the classroom

-Bang it/crack it

The children set to work on trying to set free the dinosaurs from their frozen eggs!
