Nursery Sports Day

This morning all our nursery children participated in Sports Day up on the field. We walked onto the field following the team flags and danced along to the music. They were amazing as they took part in javelin throwing, racket ball dribbling, egg and spoon races, throwing bean bags into hoops and jumping over the hurdles. They all worked together in their team colours supporting and cheering each other on as they waited patiently for their turn. We ended our EYFS sports day with some running races and every child tried their best, they had to run nearly the whole length of the field to get to the finish line where Mrs Rooney was waiting with their sticker. All the nursery staff are so proud of every child as they were such sporty stars this morning.  

Year 1 Newsletter

Year 1 have had a super busy two weeks! We have been practising our poem for the Poetry Slam, learning about 3d shapes in Maths and have spent our PE lessons preparing for Sports' Day. We have been practising skills like javelin throwing, jumping over hurdles, bean bag throwing and dribbling a ball with a tennis bat. We've had lots of fun learning some new skills!      

In Maths, the children have really enjoyed learning the properties of the 3d shapes as well. We have been exploring what the shapes feel like and have experimented with sorting and building with the shapes.

As well as all this, the children have wowed all the Year 1 team with their amazing artistic work. We have been looking at colour mixing and the children completed their very own colour wheel, where we discussed primary and secondary colours. We then looked at the artist Rachael Bennett and saw how her painting imitates the seascape. We tried to mix paints to make a sea effect using tints and shades and became artists ourselves!

Wow! What a few weeks it has been, 71.7% of the school community submitted results for the Virtual Sports Day! This is an exceptional turn out!

This final week of the Windhill21 Virtual Sports Day and it has been an exciting one. The scores have been very close with many changes in positions from last week and throughout the week.  There was an obvious surge in entries from a few houses and this has definitely made for a very competitive few days!

Thank you to all the parents who have sent me photos and videos over the past few weeks, it has been fabulous to have an insight into your virtual sports days. Sorry if I haven't used your videos/pictures I have been overwhelmed with media!

To the children, you have been amazing! Your teachers have told me how much you have enjoyed the past few weeks and have shown such passion, commitment and determination to improve your scores for the good of your houses.

The greatest thanks must go to Mr Bennett who has given up considerable time to enable this whole event to occur. He has been the driving force behind the scoring system and without him it wouldn’t have been half the event it has become.

Week 2 Virtual Sports Day

Virtual Sports Day 2020

This week has been another great week with lots more children taking part in this inaugural event, nearly half of the school community have submitted results! Well done to all of you who have taken part, your efforts have been well received by your teammates! If you still want to take part there are still five more days to enter if you have not done so already.

Below are the current standings after week 2 of the competition. So far submissions have come in from over half of the children in the school community. There is still plenty of time for these scores to change over the next five days so if you have not yet had a go and submitted results online you still have until Friday 10^th July at 12:00pm.
