Nursery Newsletter

Last week we held our Ugly Bug Ball.  This was a huge success, and we would like to thank all the parents for providing your child with an amazing costume.  It was a great turnout by parents, grandparents, younger siblings and family members.  The children had a wonderful time and loved being in their costumes and seeing their friends in their costumes.  It was lovely to hear the children sing their minibeast songs.  Thank you for all your donations of cakes and raffle prizes and for those who helped to set up the event.

In our SCARF lessons we have been looking at the differences between boys and girls and a lovey discussion was held about how boys and girls can play with each other and that anyone can play with any of the resources in the Nursery and that girls can play with boys and vice versa.  We also looked at families and how families can be very different and how we respect the different make up of families.  For example, does a family always have a mummy and a daddy?  We have also been thinking about the needs of babies and how we look after babies.  We used the role play baby dolls, baby bottles, baby clothes and nappies to help the children understand how babies need almost everything done for them.  We compared babies needs to their needs now and how they are different.

In our Religions and World views lessons awe have been looking at Special Places and the special places people of different faiths use for worship.  We looked at Mosques and how Muslims worship and pray in a mosque.  Sanober, one of our Year 6 pupils is a practising muslim and she was kind enough to come and talk to the Nursery children about her faith and her first hand experience of mosques.  We also looked at synagogues and why this is a a special place for Jewish people.

One of or more practical activities for our Phonics lesson was to make jammy toast for the letter ‘j’.  Yummy!

Nursery Newsletter

There was a huge amount of excitement in Nursery this week as we had some very wriggly visitors!  Worms!  The real live worms were the latest minibeast we have had visit us, helping the children to explore and investigate our topic of Minibeasts.  The children were fascinated with the real worms and, after learning about how to look after and handle the worms gently, were very enthusiastic to hold them.  They even placed them on their wrists saying they had worm bracelets!  We worked together to make a ‘wormery’ for our worms and we will observe them over the next few weeks.  We learned that worms have no eyes or ears.  They have a mouth but with no teeth.  We learned the special scientific name for creatures with no backbones – invertebrates!  Did you know that the longest worm in the world can be up to 3m long!

One of our Maths activities last week was the Super Worm Hula Hoop game!  The children had to throw bean bags into a hoop and then record how many were inside the hoop and how many were outside the hoop.  They were asked to record the activity using their own symbols and numerals as well as saying one number for each bean bag in order.

Our Sports day is Monday 18^th July.  Last week we used our PE time to practice some of the events on the school field.  We practiced our hurdles and bean bag throwing as well as our running races.  The children are very excited about Sports day and more information will be provided shortly.

We have been celebrating Diversity Week at school.  We joined the Reception classes to create a Wonderful rainbow mural.  We also joined Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 in a celebration parade on the field.  We made flags and listened to the older children sing songs and read their poetry.  We had some fantastic Equality books, and we had a guest teacher visit us, Miss Hodges from Year 5, who read us a lovely story.

Nursery Newsletter

This week we had a very some very exciting visitors join us from Exotic Explorers.  Minibeasts!  We had a very special session where we were able to hold and feel different minibeasts.  We learned a lot of amazing facts about these small creatures.

We saw millipedes, tarantulas, snails, and scorpions! 

We have also been celebrating the Queens Jubilee.  As part of our celebrations, we made our own crowns, threaded red, white, and blue pasta necklaces, and had a special snack.  We had our celebration lunch in the hall wearing our crowns!

Our new topic for our Religions around the World lessons is entitled ‘Special Places’.  We are starting this off by looking at homes as special places.  We looked at different homes from around the world (such as a yurt, a mud hut, a wooden house on stilts) and talked about what was the same ad what was different about them.  We then got into groups and made a special home for a toy animal, thinking about what each home would need.  We used a variety of construction resources, such as Lego, Duplo, Stickle Bricks, and wooden blocks.  I think the cuddly toys are very lucky to have such wonderful houses!
