Kangaroos, Kings and Kites....

This week our focus sound is "k." This week the children  have been busy making beautiful kites in their  choosing time and having lots of fun running down the hill, as fast as they can, to make them fly! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yoga with "The Wonder tree"

Today, Nursery had their second session with Sara from "The Wonder Tree" and learnt lots of nursery rhyme poses! The children loved pretending to be monkeys and calling the Dr with their telephone feet! We are learning what makes our bodies happy, healthy and strong! We can't wait to see her again in the next few weeks.

 

 

Pancake Day

 Nursery celebrated Pancake Day with their very own pancake café! Beforehand we talked about why we celebrate pancake day and how Lent is preparation for the celebration of Easter. We talked about it being a time of waiting like Advent. 

  Outside, the children had their own pancake party's in the garden café following a recipe and combining ingredients to make their perfect pancake!

Hickory Dickory Dock!

Our focus rhyme this week is Hickory Dickory Dock. As part of our phonics activities we listened to this version of the rhyme and then used musical instruments to represent each of the animals that went up the clock.

 

 

This made Miss Woodhouse wonder what animals the children would like to go up the clock!

 

Miri thought a snake would slither up the clock.
So she drew her snake on a post it note which we stuck on our rhyme map.
Miri used instruments to sing the rhyme through !

Theo G thought a snow man would wibble wobble up and down the clock!

Darcie W suggested a spider could go climb up the clock!

I wonder what else might go up the clock tomorrow!!

 

Row, row , row the boat!

Last week we learnt "Row, row , row the boat" at carpet time. As the week went on the children began to suggest other things we might see as we rowed our boats down the river!

 

Ariana suggested we might see a "scary ghost so don't forget to scream" and Radley thought we might see a "rhino" and we mustn't forget to "charge and hide."

 

In our small group times we practiced counting using our fingers to touch and count each person in the boat  and some of the children used junk modelling to make their own boats which they tested in the water tray!

 

Getting ready for Christmas!

The children in Nursery  have been working really hard practising for their upcoming Nativity performance, "Jesus' Christmas party". They are really excited to dress up in their costumes and  perform for their grown ups, and have been singing the songs and practicing their actions ready for Wednesday's performance!

This week the children have also been very excited about getting ready to celebrate Christmas and have been hard at work making paper chains and pine cone baubles for the Christmas tree.















In addition to all the Christmas excitement the children have been shape hunters in the nursery finding lots of them hidden around the nursery!

 

Meeting the Little Red Hen

Last week we read the story of "The Little Red Hen" and made soda bread. We also went to meet the schools very own little red hen called Fennel and her new friend, Parsley. The children had to remember to take their little voices and their kind hands when they went to see the hens. We took her some soda bread which we had made and some cucumber which is her favourite.   We got to stroke  Fennel gently . The children told me she was covered in feathers and felt soft, comfy and fluffy! In the afternoon we  even found an egg in the nesting box! Thank you Little Red Hen!

 

 

 

Baking Bread with the Little Red Hen

This term our topic is "Food" and this week we are reading the story of the Little Red Hen who made the bread "all by herself". After we read the story at carpet time we made soda bread all by ourselves, using recipe cards! We added raisins, cheese and  some delicious smelling herbs too!

 

 

 

Look out for the recipe card in book bags and give it a go! We would love to see and hear about any bread you make at home!

 

Tomorrow the children will be going to visit the schools very own Little Red Hen!

Autumn walk fun!

Last Monday, both Nursery classes went for an Autumn walk around the school. We visited  Forest school and found lots of different colours of Autumn as we looked at the changing leaves  around us. We looked for big leaves and small leaves and had fun throwing the leaves up into the air and watching them float down onto us.  Some of the leaves we collected lots of leaves were used to make our bookmarks in support of Vision aid.

Today EYFS hosted the eagerly anticipated:
 'Ugly Bug Ball Garden Party.'

We were surrounded by mini-beasts of all shapes and sizes!

Potter performed:- Mini-beasts on the bus
