Pupil Forum
Thank you once again to all our class represents for another successful and interesting Pupil Forum. This week’s discussion centred around the pupils’ views on Equality at Windhill 21. The children all spoke clearly and had clearly brought some strong opinions from there classmates. Findings from this lively discussion will be shared with the children in assembly and added to the website.

12th March 2018 Pupil Forum - Religious Education
As subject leaders, Miss Woodhouse and Miss Vickery were keen to hear pupils’ views on RE at Windhill21 so it was decided it would be discussed at Pupil Forum.
As a whole, it was agreed tht children found it interesting to learn about different religions. They were able to identify a number of different religions such as Muslim, Buddhism, Sikhism and Christianity -all of which had been taught in various year groups through the school.
Some children initially mistook ‘religion’ for ‘nationality’, but this was clarified by older members of the groups.
Children felt that learning about RE is important because:
“It helps you understand people.”
“It helps you know about others.”
“We should be aware of and respect peoples’ beliefs.”
Children said their favourite aspects of RE lessons were the stories told, but they felt their lessons could be improved by using more drama or videos and maybe visiting some places of worship.

18th May 2018 Pupil Forum - Charities
In pupil forum this week we discussed charities: what they are, what they do and how they help people in need. There was a strong general agreement that charities work hard to help make lives better. Some children were keen to share how they had been involved with charities and which ones were particularly important to them.
Many children were able to name several charities including Grove Cottage, Cancer Research, Water Aid, Children’s charities and animal rescue charities.
A few children felt it was wrong that there was not enough money to research serious medical conditions and that the Government should provide the money, rather than charities having to raise it themselves.
When asked whether they felt it was important to support charities, the children believed it was. Some reasons given were:
“It’s important for everyone to have the same opportunities.”
“We all have responsibility to help the environment.”
“We should help to make everyone healthy.”
The conclusion was that the children wanted to support charities more at school and suggested talent shows, cake sales, sponsored events and non uniform days to raise money. There was even a suggestion of the teachers going in stocks and having wet sponges thrown at them to raise money!
