Kandinsky's Forest Treat

Yesterday, Kandinsky Class had a lovely treat when they visited the forest. We were greeted with a roaring fire and christmassy decorations around each of the logs at the log circle. Mrs Rawding told us lots of interesting facts about how the fire keeps burning and made sure we were safe at all times.

We were then given a surprise visit from Mrs Moore! She came up to tell us that after our wonderful persuasive writing and seeing us behave so well in the forest, she *wouldn't* be cutting down the forest after all! What a relief! There was lots of cheering!

After lots of singing along to Christmas songs and reminiscing about the best times in the forest so far this year, we were able to carefully toast our own marshmallows on the fire with help from Mrs Rawding.

And to top it all off, we had lovely warming hot chocolate and biscuits as well.

It was such a lovely afternoon up in the forest and the children were all brilliantly behaved. A super end to our topic!

Keeping ourselves safe on line

The truth is that nine and ten year olds know the internet a lot better than their parents and teachers. Most of us want to become famous YouTube stars so why would we keep our profiles private
and deny ourselves a great following?

The Two Johns (two retired policemen) came in to discuss the ways that we use the internet but most importantly the best ways that we can keep ourselves safe on line.

re Ticktock and other video apps:
- understand what weirdos are looking for online
- know that many of your followers will be weirdos
- know that weirdos have probably already downloaded videos that we have posted on line
 - keep your profiles and accounts private and know how to change ALL the settings
- At the very least, CHANGE YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS SO THAT NOBODY CAN DOWNLOAD YOUR VIDEOS

re Live streaming
- avoid live streaming in your PJs or boxer shorts as this is what the weirdos are looking for (especially if you are live streaming from your bedroom)
- know that many of your followers will be weirdos...why else would they be following you?
- what information are you disclosing online? How might weirdos use this?
re Roadblocks and other on line gaming
- the weirdos will target you if the online chat
- remember that the characters in games are represented by real people and you don’t know who they are
- if you are offered things that seem too good to be true then it will be dodgy
- if you are asked to do

Snapchat
- only chat with real life friends
- make sure you use Ghost mode and select ‘until turned off’ or people can find your EXACT location

posting photos on line
- photos are tagged with the location that they were taken so weirdos will know exactly where you live if you post photos on line

PARENTS PLEASE COME AND LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP US TO KEEP OURSELVES SAFE BY COMING TO SEE THE TWO JOHNS TONIGHT

Year 3 Update

This week Year 3 have been learning about the 17 global goals and how we can contribute as a school and as individuals to help change the world for the future! The school have identified plastics as our focus issue. The children have decided to suggest some changes that they believe will help the school and the wider community.

On top of all of this the children have had a busy week learning our song for the harvest festival, learning about how magnets attract and repel as well as writing their own suspense stories. We have now started to learn a new suspense story, the children can practice their retelling skills with you at home.

In addition to this, in maths the children have been reviewing odd and even numbers and identifying patterns within sequences of 2 and 3 digit numbers. All the children have been working really hard and we are very proud of them.

Keep up the hard work Year 3!
