Year 2's World Book Day

Year 2 had a fabulous World Book Day.

We started our day off by having a quiz with Bellatrix Le Strange, the Snow Queen and Cruella De Vil. Then we introduced ourselves as the characters that we had come as and the word that we had chosen to describe them.

We then travelled to Narnia to meet the terrifying Snow Queen! She told us her story and we discovered just how deceitful she really was!

Then we explored the book 'Inside the Villains' and talked about what makes a good villain. We then designed our own giant and made it as terrible as we could.

Throughout the day we shared our favourite books and enjoyed lots of new ones too!

Amazon Wishlist

As World Book Day approaches, we felt this is an ideal time to release our exciting Windhill21 Amazon Book Wishlist for the school.

We have had various requests from families for alternative ways to inform you of the resources required to support teaching and learning and we felt this was a great way to help the school and get your child involved at the same time.

The staff have always been very grateful for your generous donations via the WSA and other fundraising events held at school. To that end, we have decided to create a Wishlist on Amazon. The list contains a variety of both fiction and non-fiction books with some being designed to support the different topics that the children learn about.

You can search for the list using the following link:

You can add an item from our Wishlist as you complete your shopping. The books range in year group, price, quantity, and priority. We would kindly request that your book is delivered to your home address so that your child can bring it in and share it with the class.

Your child will also be provided with a sticker to name and date their book donation before adding it into their book corner. We feel that this is an exciting way to show that your book was very generously donated to the school and appreciated for years to come.

A BIG Thank You from all the teachers at Windhill21; we very much appreciate your support.

Year 3 get creative for World Book Day 2021

On Friday 5th March, we celebrated World Book Day. This year, our theme was all about protecting the planet and the effects of plastic on the environment. To help raise awareness of this issue, the children decided to recycle and re-use materials and rubbish around their homes to make their own outfits. We were amazed by their designs and creations!

Inspired by the non-fiction book 'Protect the Planet' by Jess French, the children also wrote and delivered their own passionate speeches suggesting ways to reduce and re-use plastic waste. It was clear that the children had been honing their oracy skills, by making eye contact, speaking clearly and using appropriate physical gestures to deliver their points. Their arguments were thoughtful, well researched and persuasive.

Finally, we discussed books that we enjoy reading to escape, which seems particularly poignant during these challenging times, and the children enjoyed curling up in a cosy spot to read their own chosen books.
