Year 1 newsletter

For the last two weeks, Year 1 have been very busy practising for their Christmas show. The children have been fantastic and remembering their lines and singing their hearts out! We can't wait to show you the final production. No pictures of the rehearsals though... we want it all to be a surprise!

In addition to lots of rehearsals, the children had so much fun in their smoothie lessons in Design and Technology. They have been tasting forest fruits, planning what to put in their own smoothie, making their smoothie and designing the packaging for their smoothie bottle. We had some lovely discussion about the healthy fruits we've used and loved watching their faces when they tried some of the different mixtures!

We were also lucky to have a virtual visit from Nancy at the CORUM Lifebus. The children were very excited to see her and her special friend Harold the Giraffe! We discussed how things have been different for us at home and school since COVID and how all have different emotions surrounding this. The children talked very openly and it was a good way to about how they were feeling in a fun environment.

We also had Anti-bullying week, where we discussed what it is to be a bully, how we could help friends who are unhappy and what we would do if we saw or heard people being unkind to someone. We're continuing to have weekly stories related to our Personal, Social, Health and Emotional curriculum; all of which are resulting in wonderful classroom discussions.

All in all, a very busy couple of weeks!

Year 1 visit to Cornwall House

Last week, some children from Year 1 were lucky enough to go and visit the residents from Cornwall House Retirement Home and sing songs from our Christmas show. The children had so much fun, chatting to the residents and they even got to have a little snack and drink!

A big thank you to everyone who has helped the children to learn any lines for the nativity over the last few weeks. The children were all shattered after a very busy day last Thursday, but we think you'll agree they did very well!

Year 1 newsletter

Year 1 have had a busy start to the new half term! In maths we have been using cherry models and manipulative  to come up with four addition number sentences using the same three numbers. We have been investigating wood this week in topic. We went for a walk around the school to see what things have been made out of trees and wood.
We have completed our science topic on plants and have started our new topic ‘seasonal change’. The children have been very excited to learn about the seasons and the different weathers.
We have already started practising for our nativity. Thank you so much for your support in helping the children learn their lines.

Christmas Counts!

Thank you to all those who attended the Reception nativity, Christmas Counts. The children have worked incredibly hard in the weeks leading up to their performances, so much so that they have been singing the songs at every moment of the day!

The children have been sharing their feelings about the show with their friends:

"I am so proud, I go up two times on the star chart!"

Suela

"I'm nervous but excited!"

Menia

"I love the Christmas Boogie song! It makes me happy!"

Logan

If you are interested in purchasing a photo of your child as a keepsake, the deadline for order form is tomorrow, Thursday 13th December at 3pm. This will hopefully mean that you will receive the photos before Christmas.

Thank you again for all your support with the performances. From helping your child learn their lines to sorting and repairing costumes; we are incredibly grateful!

Getting ready for Christmas!

The children in Nursery  have been working really hard practising for their upcoming Nativity performance, "Jesus' Christmas party". They are really excited to dress up in their costumes and  perform for their grown ups, and have been singing the songs and practicing their actions ready for Wednesday's performance!

This week the children have also been very excited about getting ready to celebrate Christmas and have been hard at work making paper chains and pine cone baubles for the Christmas tree.

In addition to all the Christmas excitement the children have been shape hunters in the nursery finding lots of them hidden around the nursery!
