The mummification process

This week in year 3, we have been lucky enough to have a drama workshop led by Mrs Moore. The session taught us the importance of mummification and why the Ancient Egyptians did it!

To warm up our voices and bodies, we did a range of activities that would help us be the best actors and actresses. One activity involved us repeating Egyptian headlines in a newspaper style!

After we were all warmed up, we investigated the process of mummification and took it in turns to act out each step that the Ancient Egyptians took. Mrs Moore was so impressed and could not believe our knowledge on Egyptians, great work year 3!

Year 2 travel to 1666!

 

This week year 2 travelled to London, 1666 to experience what it was like during the Great Fire of London during a 'Fire Of London' workshop ran by Mrs Moore and Mrs Millward.

We imagined passing a leather bucket along to put out the fire.

We created sound bites after being given sentence starters. We then performed them. As we read them out, the rest of the class created fire using the fire sticks. 

                    

We listened to slow music and acted out as if we were running from the fire in 1666.

We even showed shock and fear on our faces.

We performed in front of each other and chanted parts of the story.

We all had a great time and used the drama activities to create some fantastic pieces of writing. Thank you Mrs Moore and Mrs Millward!

 

A face that launched a thousand ships...

Today, Year Six students were transported back to Ancient Greece, and the decade long Trojan War, in a series of drama workshops. The children were immersed in historical source materials, story, music, film and drama - and used all this rich input to produce some excellent writing later on in the day.  The recounts written by Year Six detail how a Greek soldier would have felt while waiting inside the depths of the infamous Trojan Horse - and the morning workshops ensured these were filled with very real tension, pulling on all the senses and demonstrating a deep understanding of the most cunning plan Odysseus sowed into World History.

Year 6 WW1 Workshop

 On Tuesday the children were fortunate enough to attend a WW1 drama workshop led by Mrs Moore and Mrs Millward. The children were encouraged to show empathy towards the soldiers of WW1 by acting out scenes of 'going over the top' and experiences on No Man's Land. The children responded to stimulus including the poem  'Dulce et Decorum Est' by Wilfred Owen and a clip from the TV series Black Adder. We were so impressed with the children's maturity towards the touching topic. Their expressions and body language were outstanding!

This workshop led the children to write letters or diary entries from soldiers in the trenches of WW1.

Reception meet Merlin

Today, Reception had a wonderful time with Merlin and their cat called 'Kitty Cat'! After impressing Merlin with our incredible, superpower listening skills, the children worked together to create a magic potion which turned everyone into animals! Once the potion had worn off, and with all the fun and excitement, we realised that Kitty Cat had gone missing! Together, the children helped Merlin to find Kitty Cat, who had been taken by a very cheeky dragon! 

The children had so much fun at their drama workshop this morning! Merlin was incredibly impressed with how well all the children listened and followed instructions.

Drama Workshops!

Reception and Key Stage 1 were very lucky to have a drama workshop today provided by: Perform.

In Reception and Year 1 we visited the Planet Party Land! Where all of the Party People were always leaving the taps on and not looking after their planet! We had to become super heroes with our friend 'Super Dooper Hero' and help save Planet Party!

Super Dooper Hero took us on a trip to the Rainforest to collect trees and plants to plant on Planet Party, but when we got to Planet Party to plant the trees, the Villian: The Big Bopper found us so we had to stop and pretend to be trees so he couldn't see us!

We planted all of our trees and managed to get back to safety on our rocket ship!

We had an amazing time pretending to be Superheroes with Perform!
