Miss Lawrence, Mrs Williams and Mrs Erdogan were so proud of all the children for learning such a tricky poem. We were particularly impressed with their use of voice and understanding of new vocabulary. You were our winners Cassatt!!

Odd and Even!- Reception Newsletter

 

This week in Maths we have been learning about Odd and Even numbers. We started by looking at groups of objects and splitting them in half, this helped us to see if a number could be split equally. We found out that if a number is split equally it is an even number but if the number cannot be split equally and there is some left over, this is an odd number!

We played a game of musical chairs to help us practise our odd and even numbers! We knew that there was either an odd number of children or chairs or an even number of children or chairs.

If there were an odd number of chairs then there was an even number of children which meant that one child was going to be out of the game! If there were an even number of chairs then there must be an odd number of children! Either way a child was always going to be out of the game as the teacher kept taking away one chair!

Playing this game helped us to remember what numbers were odd and even numbers.

We absolutely loved playing this game!

Cheeky Elves in Reception!

The 1st of December brought a welcome surprise to Degas and Cassatt!

The class' very own cheeky Elf!

Buddy flew down to Degas and Elvis landed in Cassatt ready to report back to Father Christmas! They were sent here to watch all of the children very carefully!

So far they have been up to a bit of mischief, on Day 1 Buddy was found swinging from the ceiling! Elvis was found climbing on the reading umbrella!

Today Elvis was found hiding out in Cassatt's Christmas tree!

Whilst Buddy decided to have a rest and share a book with his friends......of course it was about Dinosaurs! His favourite!

I wonder what they will be up to tomorrow?! But I am sure they will keep the children entertained until 18th December!

Reception Sports Day

Reception Sports Day!

Group 1 of Cassatt and Degas today enjoyed their virtual sports day with some extra races thrown in!

We all had a great time, playing music to spur us on and cheering on our friends!
We even got Bronze, Silver and Gold stickers to celebrate where we came in our races!

The most important thing was the taking part and having so much fun!

Kindness in Cassatt class

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week!

Cassatt class has always been full of very kind children, and I am reminded of this each time I check my emails. Whether it's writing a letter or a birthday card to a loved one, helping with household chores, reading stories to siblings or even putting a smile on someone's face with a magic trick, kindness is at the very heart of it all.

To mark Mental Health Awareness week, why not try one of these Random Acts of Kindness, or come up with your own!

Building Healthy Minds in Cassatt Class

Lots of children in Cassatt class have been focusing on some of their favourite activities to help boost their mental well-being! Crafts, sharing stories, science experiments and exploring the natural world are just some of the ways that Cassatt class have been spending their time.

Here are some top rated activities from the children themselves.

Staying Connected

Stella has really enjoyed completing a quiz set by her Granddad! Not only has this grown her brain with lots of brand new facts, but it has also helped her to stay in contact with her family!

Looking forward to things

Sebastian has made a wish jar to help him plan for all the things he is looking forward to doing when he is able to (I'm not sure 'swimming with sharks would feature on Mrs Williams' wish list, but it certainly does on Sebastian's!)

Spending time outside

Louie has been loving time spent with nature, and he has even created an obstacle course for Minibeasts at the bottom of his tree!

Meanwhile, Frank has been enjoying football and I have even seen some of you creating intricate nests for the birds!

Enjoying hobbies with loved ones

Isaac has been busy baking cakes and enjoying being the head chef in his kitchen! Miss Lawrence hopes that he might be able to teach her a thing or two!

Also, Luke has been developing his keen interest in all things creative with some beautiful leaf art along with delicate clay decorations.

Yoga and Meditation

Rylee has been using the Cosmic Kids website to have a go at some meditation and yoga! Here is one of the children's favourites that we always enjoyed at school.

Cassatt class (AKA Full Time AGENTS!)

The secret's out...

They have been persevering with their writing practice, developing their inquiry skills with their science and maths, showing care for living creatures, opening their minds to try new things (even radishes!) and respecting the meaning behind VE day.

Cassatt class home learning

Buzz, buzz, buzz... 

that's the sound of Cassatt class being busy bees!

It has been another busy start to the week for the children of Cassatt class. In fact, for their literacy, they started work on their new story The Very Busy Spider! They have also been keen mathematicians, practising addition and working with teen numbers. 

It was a real pleasure to see all of the children on the Zoom call this week. Their confidence to speak with their teachers and peers and the patience they demonstrated whilst waiting for their turn made the Cassatt teachers feel very proud. I must say I felt rather inspired myself! I've started to practise my sewing and have been reading about dinosaurs, Mrs Erdogan is tending to her own seedlings to make sure they grow, and Mrs William's is using information books to brush up on her knowledge about Ninja Turtles! 

I am always so excited to see all the activities you have been doing at home. Opening my emails from the Cassatt families is my favourite job at the moment! Now, I mustn't keep all these wonderful pockets of learning to myself! Have a look at just some of the things that the children in Cassatt have been doing at home!

 Literacy

The children have been really enjoying the Ruth Miskin spelling videos! They have also been writing sentences and creating lists and labels based on their Minibeast topic.

Maths

From brain-growing addition sheets to using counting and measuring skills when baking, the children are working hard on their maths learning.

Understanding of the world

Bee watering pools, fuzzy caterpillars and spiky hedgehogs, oh my! Lots of the children are really looking after all the creatures they are finding out and about. There has also been a rather exciting volcano experiment taking place in a number of gardens; take cover!

Expressive Arts and Design

With inspiration drawn from books they have read, the children have been colouring, drawing, sticking and folding their way to magnificent pieces of art.

Cassatt Home Learning

The children in Cassatt class have been wriggling, crawling and scurrying straight into their new topic, all about Minibeasts! 

Minibeast Literacy

Lots of you have been enjoying this week's story: The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You have been thinking about your favourite foods from the story and learning how to write a list.

I have also received lots of wonderful pieces of child initiated writing! From fact files to labels, stories to captions, the children seem to be really inspired by their new topic.

Minibeast Maths

Alongside Numberblocks and Mathletics, the children have been working really hard to grow their mathematical brains. Pictures of calculations, counting and even a snail race have made their way to my inbox over the last few days!

Minibeast Art

Whether it's exploring paint effects or designing textured creepy crawlies on PurpleMash, the children have been getting very creative!

Minibeast Science

This topic offers a great opportunity for children to explore the world around them and make observations of natural environments. We have had bug hunts, plant growing experiments and even Bug Hotel construction!

... and this is only the beginning!
