Stay and play session

Thank you to everyone who attended today's stay and play sessions with your child. It was so wonderful to see children and parents take part in the variety of phonics and literacy activities that were set up. The atmosphere was so positive and the children's behaviour was fantastic! They truly did show off their "fantastic phonics skills" as they confidently showed their grown ups how to play these games. Well done Nursery! We are so proud of you today!

The Bus game! Only things that begin with a "b" can ride the bus today! Can spider ride the bus?

Practicing writing our names! Using chalk at the big board today! You could try this one on the patio in the garden or in the sand tray for a sensory experience!

"I spy" using puzzles. These puzzles might look easy but when you add in the challenge of listening for the initial sound they become much trickier. A great way to play with siblings who are older and younger!

Reading a story! My favourite part of the day! Add in a new question tonight, before you even open the book take time to look at the front cover and see if you can predict what the story will be about.

"Peg a rhyme" We love this activity as it's fun to listen to the words that rhyme and it helps develop the children's fine motor skills by squeezing the different pegs to match the rhyme.

Hickory Dickory Dock!

Our focus rhyme this week is Hickory Dickory Dock. As part of our phonics activities we listened to this version of the rhyme and then used musical instruments to represent each of the animals that went up the clock.

 

 

This made Miss Woodhouse wonder what animals the children would like to go up the clock!

 

Miri thought a snake would slither up the clock.
So she drew her snake on a post it note which we stuck on our rhyme map.
Miri used instruments to sing the rhyme through !

Theo G thought a snow man would wibble wobble up and down the clock!

Darcie W suggested a spider could go climb up the clock!

I wonder what else might go up the clock tomorrow!!

 

Reception reading and writing challenges!

Reception children have been working really hard in their Leapfrog lessons at school, learning to hear sounds in words and write them down. This hard work is paying off as we are now beginning to see more independent writing during the children's choosing time.

They have now received their homework pack to encourage reading and writing at home. Thank you to everyone that came to the meeting with Miss Clarke and Miss Lawrence; what a fantastic turn out! If you weren't able to make the meeting, please arrange time with the class teacher in order to receive the homework pack.

We can't wait to see the amazing writing that you are getting busy with at home!

Numberblocks!

Watching Numberblocks is a brilliant way to help your children to learn lots of mathematical concepts including:

• Number recognition
• Number ordering
• Counting

These episodes have been designed specifically for young children with the help of teachers and mathematics professionals. We have been using these episodes in school to introduce the numbers to the children.
