Year 4 Victorian Day

“Ma’am, what was life like in Victorian schools?” 

On Tuesday, Year 4 became Victorian school children! We followed the rules that were created in Victorian schools such as, calling our teachers “Ma’am”, standing behind our chairs when an adult entered the room, using the dunce’s hat and reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Luckily, no one got the cane! 

In our workshop, we used drama to consider the emotions that children in Victorian workhouses would feel. We also imaged street scenes of the time and used drama to replicate this. We really enjoyed Mrs Moore and Mrs Millward’s performance as Madge and Madge auditioning for the show, Oliver Twist! 

On the playground we played Victorian games including hopscotch with a pebble and follow the leader! Even though these games do not include any modern technology or equipment, we found them great fun!

Both classes also became detectives when helping to solve a Victorian murder! We were given clues about the victim and suspect that we had to interpret and piece together in order to name the culprit! Both classes were successful! 

Year 3 Update

Year 3 kick started their week with a Natural Disasters workshop focusing on drama and use of language to describe the effect and impact they can have on people. We have also been learning about Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Versuvius in 79 AD in topic lessons. It has given us a real insight into the impact a volcanic eruption can have and from this we will be writing our own diary entries next week. The children have worked really hard on the maths quizzes throughout the week and we have also been learning about the positives and negatives of the sun and how to keep safe in the sun.

Year 3 International Day

On Friday 22nd June, Year 3 had a full day of exciting activities learning more about the country of Egypt. The children learnt key facts about Egypt which gave them an insight to modern day Egypt, building on their learning of the Ancient Egyptians. The children were given a range of Egyptian foods to try as well as making their own hummus. On top of all of this the children went to an Egyptian dance workshop to show off their moves.

Today year 3 have enjoyed a drama workshop from mummification to fighting monsters in the underworld!

Reception Maths Workshops

Today we had the pleasure of hosting our Reception Maths Workshop and we honestly cannot thank everybody enough for your attendance and enthusiasm for all of the activities provided.

It was lovely to see the children engage with you all in a range of different mathematical subjects. From numeral recognition to 3D shapes- you have now tried it all!

Above all we want to say how brilliant and well behaved all of the children were, we are proud of each and everyone of them! Hopefully they wowed you with how much their maths brains have grown!
