Stay and play session

Thank you to everyone who attended today's stay and play sessions with your child. It was so wonderful to see children and parents take part in the variety of phonics and literacy activities that were set up. The atmosphere was so positive and the children's behaviour was fantastic! They truly did show off their "fantastic phonics skills" as they confidently showed their grown ups how to play these games. Well done Nursery! We are so proud of you today!

The Bus game! Only things that begin with a "b" can ride the bus today! Can spider ride the bus?

Practicing writing our names! Using chalk at the big board today! You could try this one on the patio in the garden or in the sand tray for a sensory experience!

"I spy" using puzzles. These puzzles might look easy but when you add in the challenge of listening for the initial sound they become much trickier. A great way to play with siblings who are older and younger!

Reading a story! My favourite part of the day! Add in a new question tonight, before you even open the book take time to look at the front cover and see if you can predict what the story will be about.

"Peg a rhyme" We love this activity as it's fun to listen to the words that rhyme and it helps develop the children's fine motor skills by squeezing the different pegs to match the rhyme.

Forest school session

This week the children had their first forest school session and we will be going to the forest every Monday in the Summer term (unless stated otherwise). The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and asked "Can we come back again?" We talked about forest school rules before we went and when we got their we used our senses to explore this new setting. We climbed the trees, played on the swings and found some very large wiggly worms!

 

Suspense in Year 6S

Year 6 started their new English unit this week when we immersed ourselves in suspense.  We have started to read Robert Swindells’ Room 13 to the children to give them an excellent model of suspense writing.  We all went into the immersion room where we imagined ourselves in a scenario where we had been abandoned outside a dilapidated house belonging to our unknown aunt. A house which was to be our home for the foreseeable weeks.  The children wrote beautifully describing their surroundings and their apprehension.  With only a week to go until SATs, the children have impressed us with their stoic attitude to their work. Well done year 6 keep it up for that final push.

Year 1 Newsletter

Year 1 have had a very busy first couple of weeks back at school. We love our new topic, 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!'. Our classrooms have transformed into seasides with lighthouses, beach huts and shells!

In Art we are learning about an artist called Rachel Bennett who creates beautiful seascapes. Over the next few weeks we will be creating our own seascapes using painting and collage techniques. 

We visited the Immersion Room to be surrounded by a gallery of Rachel Bennett's artwork and looked closely at the colours used. Following this we returned to the classroom to experiment with colour mixing. We mixed blue and white, blue and yellow and blue and red to see what shades we could make!

In Science we have been learning about the seasons and we went outside to look for signs of Spring! We found blossom, buds and lots of insects.

What's the Time Mr Wolf?

In Reception, we have been learning how to use an analogue clock to tell the time. We spoke about familiar times of the day, such as lunch time, story time, home time and dinner time, and shared our own experiences about telling the time. 

"Home time is always 3 o'clock but lunch time is before, that's 12 o'clock!" Freddie tells us, as he shares his most important times with the class!

The children then found out about the different hands on an analogue clock and the numbers featured on the face. We used our newly acquired knowledge to play a game of What's the Time Mr Wolf, in which the children showed the time on the clock to the nervous children approaching the Wolf's dinner time!

Dragon World

Year 2 have had a brilliant afternoon! This morning they collaged dragons in English so they can create a write a character description on it next week. This afternoon we then created a dragon world together as a class and painted dragon eggs to accompany the dragons we collaged in the morning.
There were so many creative ideas!

Stop, Look, Listen, Think!

This week, the children in Reception have been learning about the rules of the road. In small groups, and with a teacher, the children went to the school car park to practise their road safety skills. 

"You have to stop before you go on the road"

"You have to look both ways to check for any vehicles, even bicycles!"

"You need to listen for the whirring engines or wheels"

- Ethan

"You need to think about if it is safe to cross the road, only if you are with your grown up"

We learnt a catchy song to help us remember these four things, which also reminded us of some other important things to remember, like getting off your scooter before crossing the road. You can find the song here along with other helpful resources.
