Creating Seascapes

In Year 1 we have begun work for our seascape collages. Over the last two weeks we have used printing techniques to create patterns, textures and colours for sea, sand and rocks. Next we will be cutting up each print to create a seascape collage!

Meeting Mr Nibbles

Nursery have begun their topic about animals with the famous story "Dear Zoo" this week and learning about pets. Mrs Payne's class have a pet hamster which George, Kiera and Jimi brought down to show the children. The Year 5's taught the nursery children about how to care for Mr Nibbles and showed them how to feed, hold, pet and exercise him in his special ball. The Nursery children were very good listeners and loved meeting Mr Nibbles and his responsible Yr 5's!

Year 1 draw a Penny Farthing

Year 1 found out about what bicycles looked like in the past.

They watched a film about someone riding a Penny Farthing.

It was named after old fashioned money.

The Penny Farthings were very dangerous!  They didn't have any breaks and it was easy to go over the top of the handle bars.

 They used charcoal to draw their version of a Penny Farthing.

Reception's trip to St Michael's Church

Reception really enjoyed their trip to St Michael's church on Tuesday morning. The Vicar welcomed us warmly and, after telling us a little bit about the church, he set us the challenge of spotting some very special objects.

We found lots of different things made of stone, wood, metal, cloth, wax, paper and even glass. There was a font where people get baptised, a special wooden cross, some delicate clothes worn on Sundays, candles to give light,  The Bible and a very grand stained glass window. We really concentrated when we looked around, so much so that we even found a tiny little wooden mouse beneath the pulpit!

We learnt that it is a place for quiet, thinking and even gathering with loved ones for some special occasions such as christenings and weddings. We spoke about different beliefs and how it is important to be understanding and respectful of of these. The children behaved in a very respectful manner in the Church, recognising that it is a very special place for lots of people.

Once Upon a Time...

Reception have been telling their own stories this week. Using props to support their story telling, the children each had a go at sharing a story they had come up with. Have a listen to Ethan's story below:

Once the children had practised telling their story, they then went on to write it. You'll notice that Ethan's story is slightly different... he explains that "I wanted to change it a little bit so that I improved it". Seba was also really inspired by the story telling and wrote her own magical fairy tale!

Cricket review by Oliver K

Rousseau class have been practising their amazing cricket skills with Dan Dan the cricket man. Today we played our first match against each other. We were quite good at batting the ball to be honest, but most of the time we were actually hitting them (not the kids, the balls) into each other’s faces by mistake! We need to practise being backstop behind the batter and remembering to catch the ball.
