Which liquid will the marshmallow dissolve in first?

In Rousseau today we decided to investigate which liquid a marshmallow would dissolve in first. We used vinegar (to represent the acid in our stomach which breaks down food) milk, water and washing detergent. 14 of us predicted that the acidic vinegar would break down the marshmallow first but 9 thought it would be the washing detergent! Unfortunately, they are all taking a little longer than expected so will have to left over the weekend! Check in on Monday for the result!!

Child Initiated Play in Reception

The children have been learning all about special places this week. We have been able to link our new learning with our existing knowledge of special places in our own lives, such as places where people may celebrate, share time with family or even spend quiet time. 

The children have been busy making their own special places in their choosing time. Dens have been built along with castles using wooden bricks decorated with shells! "The shells make the castle feel more special and delicate" Phoebe explains.

Hanako'sThis week, after reading part of 'The Highwayman' poem, we used the illustrator, Charles Keeping, as an influence for our own work. We learnt about his style of mark making recreated our portrait version based on his work on Tim the Ostler.   

 We took pictures of ourselves, cut them in half and drew the other half in Charles Keeping's style.  We noticed that he used a lot of wrinkles and disgusting details so we included them in ours. Here are some examples of the art work.

Year 2 Newsletter

Year 2 has had a great few weeks. We have written stories about a missing dragon, mastered multiplication and division and today we wrote a passionate letter to help protect our forest school. Next week we are working on our dragon eye project and we will begin to learn the songs for the singing festival.

Year 6 SATs, newsletter

What a week for year 6! The children have all completed their KS2 Standardised Tests in grammar, spelling, reading and maths. They have all done themselves so proud doing their absolute best. All pupils have agreed that it’s been a great week. They have thoroughly enjoyed the delicious hot croissants, flapjacks and fruit for breakfast through to the amazing celebratory cakes made by Mrs Lamb.

The children have continued to work hard and today have been continuing their suspense stories.  They really have worked hard.  Well done to all! 

Paul Klee - Castles and Sun

On Wednesday afternoon, Warhol class took inspiration from Paul Klee to create their own versions of his painting ‘Castles and Sun’. Watch this space for the versions!

How does the earth experience day, night and seasons?

This week in science, we have been using the researching and presenting scientific investigative skills to explain how the earth experiences day and night and seasons. We used the internet to research and then plan a presentation clip on 'Clips' that would be suitable for 11 year olds. We discussed the purpose and how we could engage and inform our audience

 and then began planning.

We found the task very interesting and by using the 'clips' software we could understand it even better. Check back next week when we will complete our presentations.
