Year 3 Newsletter

As we near the end of an epic first half of term, we continue to push ourselves and our learning in new and challenging ways.

Science
In Science, we have been understanding the topic "animals including humans" and investigating the function of a human skeleton. To do this we pieced together skeletons in partners and labelled the scientific names of the bones.

Topic
Our research in Egyptians continues with the invention of written communication. We discovered the history of communication and placed these onto a timeline. We then gave the Egyptian hieroglyphs a go ourselves to crack the code and reveal hidden Egyptian words!

PSHE
In PSHE, we have looked at the positives of being unique and how having different opinions doesn't divide us but helps us to consider alternative perspectives and learn from each other. We have debated big questions like personal choices of diet and technology to more open ended thunks where there is no right or wrong answer. Some thunks we considered were:
  • Is black a colour?
  • If I take your pen but replace it with an exact same pen, is it still stealing?
  • Is there more sadness or happiness in the world?
  • Can you touch the wind?

Reading
We have been examining the story "Fantastic Mr Fox" in our reading sessions and explored many different skills and techniques. To name a few:

  • Character thoughts and feelings through body language
  • Synonyms and antonyms
  • The use of adverbs and adjectives
Below are some examples of excellent work and presentation
