Rousseau and Picasso class have had another just week finishing their hot tasks, making switches in Science and absolutely smashing column addition in maths! In ICT we used branching databases to ask Andy answer questions about people in our class!
The children have enjoyed practising the times table check online at: maths frame multiplication check. Feel free to practise at home!
We even found time to visit the Year 1 and 2 classes to read their favourite books with them!

Reception: Autumn Days
Reception have been looking closely at the changes that are taking place this season. We have been excited to go outside and explore these changes first hand! The children have been explaining their observations in their own words...

These observations have enticed the children to have a go at mixing their own autumnal colours during choosing time.
"These leaves are all yellow and browny and scrunchy because it's Autumn"
"I think they got all beautiful!"
"The wind just blow them out of the trees so they on the floor. They're crunchy when I scrunch them"
"The leaves change colour - like a rainbow - because it's Autumn now. They all fall off so new leaves can grow"
These observations have enticed the children to have a go at mixing their own autumnal colours during choosing time.
Year 6 Newsletter
This week in year 6 we have continued to explore our topic of WW1 with our literacy and historical hats on. We have been delving deeper in to our key question of 'Was it fair to ask teenagers to fight in the Great war?' by analysing historical sources to help give us a better picture of the past. Our investigation of the power of peer pressure and propaganda, has left children with conflicting views of our key questions. Each week we add another dimension to answer our topic question as we learn more and more about the great war.
We have been creating flashbacks in literacy, writing as war veterans flashing back to life on the battlefields. We look forward to sharing their final pieces with you soon.

Reception: Working those funky fingers!
This week, the children have been open minded to try a variety of different activities. Upon finding some wool, Louie and Luke decided to 'play knitting'... little did they know that Mrs Williams was an expert finger knitter! Soon after, a production line of knitted tassels was underway. The children turned them into key rings, bracelets, necklaces and some even possessed magical powers!
Fine motor development is crucial in early years education as a precursor to a number of different skills, including writing.

Harvest, Autumn and Playdough Hedgehogs!
This week in Potter Class we have learnt all about Harvest Festival
and have enjoyed singing and performing 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrow.'
The children got to think about the food that grows in the ground and
learnt why it is picked in Autumn before the cold weather in winter
comes along. We have been reading the story of 'The Little Red Hen.'
season 'Autumn.' We have been thinking about all the leaves we can see on the floor and learning to name objects we can find such as conkers, fir cones and acorns. The children have been using the magnifying glasses to explore these natural objects closely. This has stimulated lots of talk.
Making Mathematicians in Nursery!
In the last few weeks, Potter class have been working on our maths skills. The children learnt some number skills through making play-dough hedgehogs and practised naming 2D shapes by making shape pictures based on the story 'Mouse Shapes' by Ellen Stoll Walsh.
In the play-dough hedgehogs activity
the children rolled the die and had to count
how many spots they had rolled. They then
had to count out the same number of sticks.
The sticks became the hedgehogs spines
and once they had done this a few times they
had to count all the sticks together.
In the shape picture activity the children used familiar 2D shapes (circle, square, tringles and rectangles) to make a picture of either a
mouse, robot, house or truck. The children learnt lots of shape and number songs to help them retain the maths knowledge they were learning. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
