It was so
wonderful to welcome Matisse and Riley class back to school after 8 weeks of
home learning. The children wowed us with their amazing attitudes to their work
and to each other. Everyone was so excited and happy to be back.
We
started the week by discussing our feelings about lockdown. The children shared
their success stories and challenges they had faced during this time. The children
were invited to contribute (anonymously) to a worry jar, so any concerns and
anxieties can be discussed and shared as the term goes on.
In our reading lessons we‘ve been enjoying the story of ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Oliver Jeffers. We’ve been exploring the characteristics of the crayons and analysing the text.
In our writing
lessons, we’ve been writing a story based on the Disney short film, ‘Feast,’ a
tale of a dog who loves eating unhealthy junk food, but reluctantly has to
adapt to a healthier diet when his owner starts a new relationship. The
children have been generating a huge bank of powerful vocabulary and have developed
a wide range of skills to help them construct interesting and effective
sentences.
In maths, we’ve
been exploring unit and non-unit fractions. The children have all really challenged
themselves with this tricky topic and we’ve been so impressed with their efforts.
In science,
we’ve been revising our knowledge of plants and sharing the results and
conclusions of our plant experiments that we started at home.
