Year 1 Newsletter

We have introduced doubling and halving this week in maths. We have all enjoyed learning and singing the doubling rap. They may enjoy singing it with you at home! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jOzhiACB68)

We have been learning how to identify doubles and write doubles as a number sentence.
 "Double 3 is 6. 3 + 3 = 6".

In Science our new topic is Everyday Materials. Last week we helped our Alien puppet decide which would be the best material for a toy duck out of: wood, metal and plastic. We gave reasons for our choices such as "I would choose a wooden duck because it will float", "I would choose a plastic duck so it can get wet in the bath and not be too heavy".  This week we identified and sorted a variety of materials including glass, brick, rock and water. We used the magnifying glasses to look closely and describe the properties of these materials.
