Year 3 Newsletter

Welcome back Year 3! We hope you have all enjoyed your half term and the lovely sunshine! We are excited to welcome you back for the final half term of the school year.

Maths:
In maths this term, we will be learning all about angles and lines. We are looking to develop our skills as excellent mathematicians to understand what angles are and how we can identify them. We will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes too.

English / Guided Reading:
Over the next couple of weeks, we are celebrating all things poetry. We will be taking an in-depth look at  "The Owl and the Pussy-Cat" by Edward Lear and "Fireworks" by Enid Blyton. We will explore how different poems are written and we will put these skills into practice to write our very own poems based on the seasons. We'll also be exploring what life was like as a poet and what inspired these poems.

History:
Our topic lessons continue with Romans, where we will explore aqueducts, roads and more to ultimately decide whether we believe the Romans were clever or criminal. We had lots of fun exploring how the Romans designed and made aqueducts in class last week!

Science:

In science this half term, we are going to be rock detectives! We kick-started our new unit last week by looking closely at a range of rocks to identify their key characteristics. It has helped us with our understanding of the three different forms of rock which we will learn more about over the next few weeks. We really enjoyed sketching and labelling the rocks on Thursday.

Music:
In Music we will be learning to sing, sign and play a new song, using instruments. This week we revised the importance of pulse and rhythm and enjoyed bopping to the pulse of the song. We will explore other key terms in the weeks to come.
