Year 5 Newsletter

We have jumped straight into poetry this week in year 5, exploring both classes Performance Poetry poems: The Jumblies and The Highwayman. In our reading lessons, both classes have learnt the meaning and message behind their poems and learnt about the poet. The children have also being working incredibly hard to learn and rehearse each poem and we are very excited for the poetry slam. In our English lessons, we looked at the inspiring poem by Maya Angelou, Still I Rise, and we have magpied the structure of her poem to recreate our own version with a theme of bullying. In maths this week, the children have been inferring, retrieving and calculating data from graphs and tables and in science we have explored seed dispersal. We have also begun our Suffragette silent, black and white movie project and the children started to think about story boarding their ideas.
