Could a snake swallow a human?
During Book Week, Year 1 read ‘There’s a Snake in my School!' by David Walliams. At the end of the story, the headteacher gets eaten by Penelope the snake! This made us wonder whether a snake really could eat a human. We went to the Immersion Room to look at pictures of snakes and to see how wide they can open their jaws. We watched a video where a snake swallowed an egg that was much bigger than its head!
We then
wanted to see how far we could open our own jaws! Unlike snakes, our jaws are
connected so we cannot open our mouths as wide as snakes can. We decided to
measure our jaw span using a ruler and we recorded the measurements before
drawing a graph.
