Reception: Reading books

By the end of this week, your child will have received their very first reading book! Along with this, they will have been given a reading record book. The children are being asked to read their books to their adults at home three times a week. Please ensure you write in the reading record book every time your child reads their book to you.

It is really important that you record when your child has read their reading book at home as this will enable us to award them certificates for reaching specific reading milestones!

We also ask that the reading books are kept in their book bags as they will be asked to read their books at school. Additionally, books are changed once a week.

At these early stages, the books may seem quite tricky for your child to read by themselves. However, please encourage them to sound out the word they are struggling with. If they then cannot yet blend the sounds together to make the word, you can blend it for them. If they come across a 'red' - or tricky - word, such as 'the', you can tell your child what the word is. Can they find that tricky 'red' word in their book the next time they come across it?

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your class teacher.
Many thanks for your continued support with home learning.
