Segmenting - breaking up a word for writing
Fred Talk - when a child sounds a word out loud before blending it together
Fred in your Head - when a child sounds out a word in their head before blending it together out loud
Speedy reading - when a child reads a word without the need to blend it beforehand
Special friends - two or three letters that make one sound (e.g. ch, sh, th, igh)
Green words - These are words that can be sounded out using phonic knowledge
Red words - These are words that you cannot sound out (irregular or tricky words such as 'the' or 'my')
