Year 3 Newsletter

We've had a very hectic but exciting week since coming back after half term!  For Parliament Week we've written some powerful poetry with a focus on climate change in the Arctic.  The children performed them with heartfelt passion and Natalie and Alice were brave enough to perform theirs in assembly to the whole school!   Continuing our journey through Ancient Egypt saw the children acting out the mummification process - they loved hooking the brain out through the nose of the pretend deceased and taking out the organs to put in canopic jars!  We also had a visit from a fabulous expert, Egyptologist Carol Harper, who happens to be the mum of Mrs Rogers in year 5!  With her expert help, some children acted out the myth surrounding the god Osiris and how he was killed by his brother.  We all got to smell some of the herbs and grains from Egypt that they would have grown in the ancient times. The children weren't very impressed with the smell!  We looked closely at some amazing artefacts and studied art work on papyrus.  Thanks to some brilliant questions from the children we found out all sorts of fun facts such as the sorts of foods they ate, why the dead were mummified and what their toilets were like!  To top it off we also made some delicious houmous for our design and technology unit this term.  After following the basic recipe to make it and tasting it, the children then chose a herb or spice to add to their portion.  There were mixed reviews but nearly all the children tried it and we're really proud of them!
