Year 2 build castles!

As part of our history topic, year 2 have been exploring different types of castles. We were set the challenge of working in teams to build our very own Motte and Bailey and Concentric Castles. We had to include key features of each castle. We also discussed how they were different and how they were similar.

First we made Motte and Bailey castles (which were an early type of castle) and we learnt that 'motte' means mound and 'bailey' means a flat area that is fenced. We worked really well in a team to make some great castles - some even included moving drawbridges and 3D wells!

Then we made Concentric Castles, which have an outer wall and an inner wall. These were trickier to make as we have to follow precise measurements. We added moats and drawbridges to add more detail.
