Year 3 Newsletter

We have started reading a fabulous quest story called Ice Palace by Robert Swindells in English which has been the focus of some excellent descriptive writing.  We have also been trying to use words and phrases that add tension to our writing.

We started with the authors first line and a half then we carried it on.  Here are some snippets...

Turn your face into the east wind, and if you could see forever, you would see Ivan's land.
 It is a land where...
animals never enter.  The ice is endless.
Icicles as sharp as daggers pierce through the sunlight.
Naked branches droop to the ground laden with snow.
Vast frosty snow covers everything you can see.
The bitter cold beneath your feet bites and nips through your boots.

We are also loving our Roman topic and have learnt more about the different emperors.  We have mixed views on whether they were clever or criminal so far.  The children loved learning about Roman clay pots, how they were made and what they were used for too. Then we had a go at making our own clay thumb pots which was definitely a highlight of the topic so far!
