In year 6 RE lessons, we have been learning about how different religions view the environment and planet we live on. Alongside this, the children have looked at how humans have a real impact on Earth, and how the choices we make can directly affect the environment we live in. One thing we have discussed is consuming less meat...and what alternatives the planet might provide. One of these alternatives is insects; a delicacy becoming increasingly popular across the globe, and one packed with protein and other healthy nutrients. In our lesson today, we tried crickets in a variety of flavours, some of our teachers - and even parents - joined in too!
After this special snack, we looked at how Buddhists and Christians might view the consumption of bugs by humans as a positive or negative - and what impact this could have on the environment.
It has been an 'un-bee-lievable' day for the children...and we think some new knowledge has 'wormed' its way into our year group!
