Using Hot Seating to understand a character’s emotions

This week in our reading lessons, the children in year 5 have taken the role of Cam (from our whole class reading text, Pig Heart Boy) and considered his thoughts and emotions after receiving the life changing news that he can have a new heart, but it will be a donor from a pig... To help the children really explore his harsh emotions they thought of some powerful questions they could ask Cam in order to understand. We used a drama technique called Hot Seating, where the children put their class teachers under pressure as they took the role of Cam and the children fired away their powerful questions. The atmosphere in the room completely changed and the children could sense the roar emotions Cam must be feeling. This will help with the rest of our diary writing next week.
