When the Dragon's Came... (Reception Newsletter)

Something mysterious has been happening in Reception... Early on Monday morning, the children noticed that there were some eggs that had been left in our classroom. But these weren't any old eggs... after sharing non fiction books and researching different types of eggs, it was concluded:

"They can't be chicken eggs because that's not what they look like and they're too big"
"They are too colourful. Normal eggs aren't colourful."
"These must be dragon eggs from when the dragon's came!"

We had recently shared a story by Lynne Moore and Naomi Kefford called When the Dragon's Came, which sparked the children's enthusiasm and imagination! The children decided that these eggs were very precious and delicate and had to be handled with care. They got to work creating signs to discourage people from touching the egg.

Thankfully, the children did a great job with looking after the precious eggs. Before long, we began to noticed changes in the appearance of the eggs... cracks and goo started to appear!

"There's a crack! The creature is nearly ready to come out!"

Finally, the children arrived to school on Friday morning to find that all of their care had paid off... the creature had hatched out of the egg! All that was left was a trail of footprints leading out of the school and a very small note saying Thank you for looking after my baby... The children transformed into detectives and set to work looking for more clues about what this mysterious creature could have been!

One thing is for sure; the Reception children did an amazing job at looking after their delicate eggs!
