Oracy in the classroom

Today, the children were introduced to oracy  in the classroom. We discussed the importance of communication and then considered how we can show that we are listening and responding to others ideas in class. The children then discussed the statement “homework is a waste of time.” This obviously excited the children and after the initial agreement that homework is a waste of time the children listened to other viewpoints and were able to use sentence starters such as, I agree/ disagree with..... or building from what..... said I think..... This led to a very in-depth discussion.
