This week in nursery we have been very busy. We read the story of 'The Mixed up Chameleon' by Eric Carle. It was very funny because the chameleon made lots of wishes to look like other animals but in the end decided it was best to just be a chameleon as he couldn't catch the fly when it got hungry. The children decided to create their own mixed up animals. They drew their own animal and then used different textured tissue paper to stick onto in. We had tigers with crocodile scaly skin and giraffes with zebra stripes. The children used this activity to really practise their scissor hold and were reminded to try and cut away from their bodies ensuring scissor safety when using independently. We also read a Flip Flap animal book where we could mix two animals together. The children loved making silly animals and asking the teacher the name of it for example a 'Flamalo' (Flamingo/Buffalo) and a 'Anthog' (Antelope/Warthog).
In phonics this week we learnt all about the letter sound 'u' and outside the children got to go on an 'under' obstacle course. They went under the den, under the hurdle and soft play arch and under the umbrella. So much fun exploring the letter 'u'.
