Constructing Castles in Year 2

We have been very busy designing our own castles over the past two days. We had to include a wind-up mechanism which we had previously practised making.

We started off by sketching exactly what we wanted our castles to look like and chose to include either a drawbridge or portcullis. We then wrote about the equipment we would need to construct our castle.

Then we set to work… We used cardboard boxes, yoghurt pots, toilet rolls and paper to construct the base of our castles. We then added a portcullis or drawbridge by creating a carefully structured wind-up mechanism. After that we painted our castles and added extra details such as crenulations, flags and brick-work. It was great fun! We even got to showcase our castles to each other!
