Forest Fruit Smoothies!

Year 1 have become food technologists this week!

As part of our design and technology lessons,  Year 1 have designed and made their own forest fruit smoothies.  Before making them, the children tasted some different shop bought smoothies, as well as looking at the packaging and traffic light nutrition labelling.  They rated the smoothies out of 10 and used some great vocabulary to describe them. Mango and passionfruit  and strawberry and banana were huge hits. Whereas lime, kiwi and cucumber was a big flop in Goldsworthy class!

After this the children tasted five different forest fruits - strawberry. raspberry, blueberry, blackberry and cherry -  to help them choose which two fruits they would like to make their own smoothie with.  All the children were incredibly openminded and tried ALL the fruit!

Finally the children made their smoothies and tried them!  They loved smelling the natural yogurt, measuring out the apple juice, counting out the berries and listening to the whizz of the blender.  They tried to predict the colour of their smoothie, depending on the fruit in the their recipe!  There were some huge smiles and many children sported smoothie moustaches!

But  their hard work wasn't over...they then completed an evaluation form to record what they liked best and what they might change if they made it again.  As designers, they also named and designed their own smoothie bottle and labelling!

We are so proud of how incredible the children have been during this wonderful work.
